- What is Cocoa Ash?
Using cocoa ash to make soap has been a longstanding tradition in West Africa. The ash itself is actually the leftover material in cocoa pods when they are harvested for their seeds which are used as the main ingredient in chocolate. Ash soaps and black soaps are becoming more popular and can even be found in many stores. But, why place your skin’s health in the hands of a stranger when you can make your own! Goldleaf has got you covered with cocoa ash supplied by our partner farm in Ghana.
- How should I use Cocoa Ash?
Cocoa ash is naturally always vegan. Traditionally, it is combined with plantain skins and oils to make the final soap product. Whichever process you prefer, you can use the ash in place of lye. Cocoa ash contains potassium hydroxide, which is also in lye, but while lye is known to kill germs, it does not have other health benefits unlike cocoa ash. Cocoa ash, on the other hand, naturally contains vitamin E. Thus, it can nourish your skin while also cleaning it.
- Facts and Info about Cocoa Ash
Soaps made from cocoa ash have been shown to reduce acne and eczema and even lessen the appearance of scars. They can also be used for hair and scalp care. Cocoa ash’s nourishing properties are indeed part of why it has become so popular in soaps recently. Take advantage and enjoy this useful product!
