Akuamma (Picralima nitida) Seeds

“My husband and I both use plain (not extract) akuamma powder capsules for sometimes minor, but usually moderate-level pain and neuropathy. We have lots of experience with both plain powder and the various extracts that are out there; we’ve found the extracts are all seriously lacking in any real painkilling effect, at least for either of us. It seems to be getting more difficult to find plain powder, so we’re pretty happy with yours, especially since it’s obviously much fresher than any other P. nitida powder we’ve run across.” -Real Goldleaf Customer

  • What is it?

Akuamma, known by its scientific name Picralima nitida, comes from a tree grown in West Africa. The tree is one of a kind, with no related species in its genus. In Ghana, Akuamma seeds are pulverized. Their powder is then taken as medicine to treat malaria as well as digestive problems including diarrhea. In studies, the alkaloids present in Akuamma seeds have been proven to reduce fever and fight inflammation.

  • How should I use it?

Whether by chewing the seeds, infusing them into a tea, or swallowing capsules, those who use Akuamma have reported feelings of calm and relaxation, and even a reduction in chronic pain. These effects are the result of the indole alkaloid present in Akuamma seeds, called akuammine. In composition, it is similar to the active compound in Kratom, mitragynine. Thus, Akuamma seeds and their powder form are a good alternative for those who cannot, or do not want to, use Kratom.

  • Facts and info

Through our partner farm in Ghana, Goldleaf sells Akuamma seeds, extract capsules, powder, and powder capsules. Customers can choose the format that works best for their needs. The seeds can be eaten, but do have a bitter taste. Customers can lessen the bitterness by eating the Akuamma with lemon juice, salt, or something sweet. Another benefit of buying seeds can of course be that the customer may grind them on their own as needed and make their own fresh powder. If one wants a quicker fix, capsules or powder are great options.
